New Plymouth mayor loses reelection bid days after shooting his son in heated argument

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — CBS2 reported earlier this month that New Plymouth City Mayor Rick York was arrested after admitting to shooting his son in the arm.

On November 2, Rick York got into a heated argument with his son, Jacob York. The argument escalated to the point that Rick pulled out a gun and shot his son in the arm. Jacob was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The Mayor admitted to responding police officers that he had indeed shot his son.

Rick York was on the ballot Tuesday, running for reelection as Mayor. He lost to Lisa Binggeli who garnered nearly 75% of the vote. York will be in court for a status conference hearing on November 13, he faces felony aggravated battery and two misdemeanor charges.
