The National Park Service is instituting changes for the annual Hawaii tri-park pass that provides admission to Haleakala National Park on Maui and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park on Hawaii island.
Starting on Jan. 1, the tri-park pass will go from allowing two signatures to a single signature line for one passholder, the park service said Friday. The change also applies to the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands annual passes and other park-specific passes.
The park service said the change will ensure consistency and fairness, prevent fraud and reduce revenue loss. Park passes are not transferable. All current passes will continue to be honored and may be used by both signatories through the pass expiration date.
Another change is that the Hawaii tri-park pass will now be available for purchase online, a frequent request from many park visitors. Purchasers can download the digital pass from Recreation.gov and exchange it for a physical pass if desired at any of the three participating Hawaii parks.
