The state Department of Health’s Food and Drug Branch is warning residents of several over-the-counter eyedrop products sold by national retailers that could potentially cause eye infections due to unsanitary conditions in the manufacturing facility.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration put out a safety alert for the eyedrops, which may have been purchased from CVS/Longs Drugs, Target or Walmart under the following brand names: CVS Health, Target Up & Up and Walmart Equate Hydration PF Lubricant Eye Drop.

To date, the FDA has not received any reports of eye infection associated with these products. However, consumers should discard any of the designated products they may have on hand, the state’s Food and Drug Branch advised. Eyedrops can bypass some of the body’s natural defenses, potentially resulting in partial vision loss or blindness if infection occurs.
